Trekking in Morocco:  Travel through the villages of the Amizmiz Plain.

Take on 8 days of trekking in the High Atlas Mountains and travel to the Berber villages while enjoying the beautiful views of the Haouz Plain.

In this 8 day tour you’ll be trekking through the villages of the Amziz Plain and paying a visit to a beautiful Berber village called Ait Zitoun that is well-known for its olive trees. After Al Zitoun, you’ll trek to the village of Tizgui and get the opportunity to enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the famous Haouz plain.

The next village on the route is the wonderful Ait Ahmad, a Berber village constructed from traditional clay and stones. While we’re there, you’ll get to know the locals and their lifestyle and visit Imin’Tala, one of the largest and most important Berber villages in the area. The adventure will end in the amazing Moroccan city of Marrakech.

DAY 01:

When you arrive in Marrakech you’ll be transferred to your hotel or riad.

DAY 02: Marrakech

The second day will see you get to know Marrakech with a half-day tour of the city that includes free lunch and an afternoon to spend as you please.

In the evening, you can return to your hotel or riad and eat a Moroccan meal of your choice, ready for your trekking holiday in the morning.

DAY 03: Marrakech / Ait Zitoun 900 m (ASL)

After your breakfast, its time to drive to the foot of the High Atlas, a journey that should take around 40 minutes. During your drive you’ll see lots of Moroccan agriculture, including cereal farming and fields of barley.

Upon Arrival to Ait Zitoun, a Berber Village situated in Haouz and well-known for its olives trees, we will enjoy a 3 hour walk in the stunning surrounds of the Moroccan countryside. We’ll have our Moroccan packed lunch on the way and dinner and accommodation at the guesthouse.

DAY 04: Ait Zitoun 900 m (ASL) / Ait Hmad 1400 m (ASL)

After breakfast, we’ll continue our walking tour with the village of Tizgui and from there we will discover amazing views of the Haouz plain and the Amizmiz region. We will cross the Ait Ahmad Pass and at its foot we will see terrace farms and villages on the mountain’s flank.

We will be trekking for around 5 hours over the course of the day and stopping for lunch before we get to our destination, chez l’habitant in a Berber village, where will stay overnight.

The village has around 200 inhabitants and is situated at 1200 m (ASL) and constructed from traditional clay and stones. The Berber way of life hasn’t changed much over the years and life here is based on irrigation farming, including the growing of fruit trees, cereals, vegetables and animal breeding.

DAY 05: Ait Ahmad 1400 m (ASL) / Imi n’Tala 1500 m (ASL)

In the morning, we’ll continue our walking tour along the left side of the Amizmiz river. As we go, we’ll see the local life-style of the villages as we go: it is very much a Moroccan pastoral life of traditional farming and craft work. We will take our lunch en route.

After 5 hours of walking we’ll reach Imin’Tala, a large Berber village and the most important one in the area. It is situated to the side of a majestic mountain and exposed to the right side of the Amizmiz valley which provides this village with its rich agriculture. Unfortunately none of these villages have electricity or water but the inhabitants’ hospitality remains incredible and famous in the area. Eventually, we will arrive in the middle of the afternoon at the next chez l’habitant where we’ll stay overnight.

DAY 06: Imin’Tala / Forester House / Marrakech

On the 6th day, we will take a 4 hour walk to the Moroccan city of Marrakech. On the way we’ll come accross many villages built in the traditional style from clay.

Please be aware though that, according to what the weather is like, the tour leader will have the right to modify the itinerary if need be for the security and comfort of the clients.

DAY 07: Marrakech

You will have a day of leisure and half board in Marrakech. A wonderful way to end your trekking adventure with us.

DAY 08

: Transfer to Marrakech airport.
